The mission of the Community Development Department is to enhance the community's safety, welfare, economic opportunities and quality of life. The department consists of three divisions, Economic Development, Planning, and Community Preservation. The department also manages housing programs/projects and assist with transportation planning.

Steven M. Turner was appointed Community Development Director on October 1, 2019.  Mr. Turner earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Studies from San Jose State University and graduated from various leadership and management academies throughout the Bay Area, including the Stanford University Executive Education Program.
