Volunteers are a vital part of our City staff team. Whether at our Senior Center, Police Department, or other City facilities, volunteers assist City employees with a variety of challenging and important tasks. The City of Newark accepts volunteer applications on current openings only; see our current list of positions below.

Group Volunteering

Many people like to volunteer as a team. They may be employees from a particular company, members of a club or association, or even just a group of friends who would like to spend time together at a volunteer activity. Group volunteering is an excellent way to learn more about each other and build up a sense of team, but most importantly, it’s a great way of making a valuable contribution to the community.

The City of Newark has group volunteering available in our maintenance and parks divisions. If you have a particular project that your group is interested in performing, or you’re a team of individuals who want to get together and beautify the City, all you need to do is contact the Maintenance Division at (510) 578-4806. They will be more than happy to go over the scope of the project you have in mind and will discuss with you if it is possible. If you don’t have a group project in mind but want to volunteer, we can use your assistance with park related clean-up efforts such as, trash pick-up, minor landscaping, painting, or graffiti removal.

Group volunteer work is available during park hours and in some cases, may be available during weekends. Be sure to contact the Maintenance Division at (510) 578-4806 if you are interested in becoming a group volunteer.

For basic information/FAQ's about group volunteering, please refer to the Group Volunteer Handbook (PDF).
