Fire protection services are provided under contract with the Alameda County Fire Department (ACFD). The City of Newark has approximately 44,000 residents in a 13 square mile area. This is a fraction of the total coverage of Alameda County Fire Department which serves approximately 506 square miles with a daytime population of 384,000 people.
ACFD also includes three specialized response teams, which include the:
- Hazardous Materials Unit
- Urban Search and Rescue Unit
- Water Rescue Team Unit
