The City of Newark is now recruiting for a Human Resources Technician. The Human Resources Technician is often responsible for first impressions of the City to potential job candidates, employees, and the general public. They are responsible for providing accurate and timely information and are expected to wow our employees and other customers with exemplary personal service. Technicians support all of the Human Resources functions, including recruitment and selection, employee engagement, employee development, workers' compensation, benefits, performance management, talent acquisition, employee relations, and classification and compensation. While working as a generalist in all areas, they can also specialize in a few areas that match their skills, passion, and professional growth interests.

Newark Police Officers emphasize community-based policing efforts by patrolling within fixed sectors of the City. Officers investigate all criminal complaints and handle calls for service from the community. The Newark Police Officer enjoys a variety of specialized assignments including Detectives, Traffic unit, Canine (K9) unit, School Resource Officer (SRO), and Southern Alameda County Major Crimes Task Force (SACMCTF). New officers receive field training from an experienced NPD officer prior to assuming the responsibilities of a solo beat officer. All officers are expected to collaboratively problem solve and build partnerships with the community.

The Police Officer Trainee position is an entry level position, requiring no prior law enforcement experience. The Police Officer Trainee is a temporary employee. The trainee attends a P.O.S.T. certified academy. Upon successful completion of the academy, the trainee will be eligible for appointment to the position of Police Officer.
