Additionally, Newark has a highly skilled workforce and is home to companies from a wide array of sectors, including biotechnology, logistics, manufacturing, and electric vehicles and charging infrastructure. Newark also has many upscale business class hotels that offer lower rates than similar hotels in nearby municipalities. Half of our business class hotels have extended-stay features as well. Newark’s central location is ideal for businesses hoping to strategically place themselves in the heart of the Bay Area.

Emergency Preparedness PPRR
The Prevention, Preparedness, Response, and Recovery (PPRR) workshop series has been designed to train decision makers on how to mitigate risks associated with natural disasters to their businesses. This is a core step to best position businesses in Newark for continuity and resiliency. To date, the PPRR series has covered:
- Earthquake preparedness with a focus on supply chain
- Fire extinguisher training
- Hands only CPR
- Abdominal thrust maneuver
- Personalized emergency planning
Financial Resiliency Workshop
This workshop series is designed to help small businesses plan for their business’ finances more effectively. It has included modules on how to develop, maintain, and verify balance sheets, as well as forecast revenue and profit margins.
Business Action Plan
This workshop series is designed to help small businesses or prospective business owners identify and refine their business goals, craft a strategic business plan, develop a plan for implementation, and plan financials more effectively.
Large Business programs
Connections with the Newark Community
The Economic Development team builds opportunities and facilitates connections between Newark’s business sectors, local schools, and the community. This includes organizing Manufacturing Week with Newark Unified School District, coordinating with Ohlone College, participating in college and career fairs, and scheduling meetups with human resource officers and local employment groups to help meet Newark’s workforce needs.

Old Town Revitalization
The City of Newark is taking significant steps to improve the Old Town area for residents, businesses, and customers. The project aims to revitalize Old Town as a vibrant mixed-use neighborhood that provides an improved environment for businesses and residents to thrive as a cultural center. This includes improved access for cyclists and pedestrians, as well as beautification initiatives along Thornton Avenue. The Old Town Streetscape Improvement Project is envisioned to be a catalyst for furthering the district’s sense of place and attracting private capital investment.
