SKATE PARK AT SPORTSFIELD PARK

The Citywide Parks Master Plan identifies an 18,000 square-foot skate park at the northwestern corner of Sportsfield Park on Mowry Avenue next to Fire Station No. 27.  Preliminary concepts for the skate park include both elevated and depressed skate features, seating and viewing areas, and shade structures.

Item: Approval of Final Conceptual Master Plan for Newark Skate Park at Sportsfield Park

The City Council will be reviewing the Final Conceptual Master Plan for the Newark Skate Park at Sportsfield Park.

Update – September 2018

Community Workshop #2 for the Newark Skate Park was held on Thursday evening, August 16, 2018.  The City’s design consultants, Verde Design, Inc. and Wormhoudt, Inc. presented the latest Preliminary Conceptual Master Plan.  Residents and local skateboard enthusiasts continued to show their support of the skate park and were given the opportunity to express their opinions and provide feedback on the layout and features included in the Preliminary Conceptual Master Plan.

Wormhoudt, Inc. has taken all of the suggestions and ideas shared at the second workshop and used them to develop a Final Conceptual Master Plan for the new skate park, which will be presented to the City Council for review and approval on Thursday evening, September 13, 2018 at 7:30pm at the City Hall Council Chambers. 

If you were unable to attend the City Council meeting but would like to share your ideas for the skate park you can still do so by e-mailing them to the City of Newark at public.works@newark.org or directly to the staff at Wormhoudt, Inc. at admin@skateparks.com

Construction of the skate park is anticipated to begin in Spring 2019.
