The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that nearly 1,000 Americans are killed and 176,000 are injured annually due to red light violation collisions. The monetary impact to the public is estimated by the NHTSA to be 14 billion dollars annually. To assist in making our City as safe as possible for pedestrian and vehicular traffic, the City of Newark has installed automated red light photo enforcement cameras at several intersections in an effort to increase driver/pedestrian safety, reduce vehicular accidents, and deter red light violations.

Each automated photo enforced violation produces four still photographs and a twelve second video clip of the incident in question. That video can be viewed from any computer with internet access by logging onto PhotoNotice within sixty days of the violation, with the violation number, license plate number, city code-NEWRK, or in person at the police department.

The Newark Police Department offers drop-in public viewing every Thursday between 9:00 am and 12:00 pm.
