The Newark Police Department Police Explorer Program is sponsored by the Boy Scouts of America and the City of Newark. This program provides all youth between the ages of 14 and 20 the opportunity to learn about the field of law enforcement. If you are between the ages of 21-24, you can gain the same valuable experience and knowledge through our Volunteer Cadet Program.

Explorers ride along with police officers, work in the office, and receive police related training to handle special jobs and assignments. They provide volunteer assistance, along with other Explorers in the Tri-City area, with the annual Newark Days Parade, Holy Ghost Festivities, and DUI checkpoints.

Explorers also participate in the annual San Diego County Law Enforcement Explorer Academy, which is designed to simulate an actual police academy. Participants receive formalized police training in various areas during the course of this eight day academy.
