The Fleet Maintenance section of the Newark Maintenance Division serves all departments of the City by maintaining over 250 pieces of equipment that keep the City safely functioning. The equipment they take care of includes all police vehicles, emergency generators at key buildings, fire engines, pick-up trucks and motorcycles, as well as lawn mowers and hedgers.
The Fleet Maintenance section is currently staffed by a Senior Equipment Mechanic and two Equipment Mechanic IIs.
The Fleet Maintenance section manages the Equipment Replacement List. This list monitors the useful life of the existing fleet and determines when it is most cost-effective to replace a vehicle. The Fleet Maintenance section coordinates the procurement of all new vehicles.
In addition, the Fleet Maintenance section ensures that the City’s fleet is in compliance with State and Federal Regulations, such as California Air Resources Board (CARB) Diesel Emissions rules.
