The Landscape Parks section is responsible for the maintenance of city-owned landscaped areas which includes areas around city buildings, in neighborhood and community parks, the eucalyptus groves, the medians throughout the City and all the trees within the City right-of-way.
This area makes up 123 acres of turf and planters, about 21 miles of medians, about 18,000 trees and a 16 acre lake.
The Landscape Parks section's tasks include: mowing turf, irrigation repair, hedging, litter and weed control, playground safety inspections and repair, pruning trees for vehicle and pedestrian clearance, cleaning storm drains in the winter and clean-up downed trees and other storm and accident damage. The staff helps with special projects such as Newark Days, and Music at the Grove. They also oversee the contract work for tree pruning and removal as well as the Lighting and Landscape District landscape maintenance.
